I like to think of the wood as kind of like my life,

they're both hard, but I'm trying

to shape them into something.

Our Mission

Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory provides after-school and summer programs for high school youth from low wealth communities in the City’s northern neighborhoods. These teenage apprentices are immersed in the maritime arts including traditional wooden boat building, competitive sailing, and environmental sciences. The program’s theory of change is rooted in a strength-based approach to positive youth development. Youth are given the love and support to excel, add beauty to our world, build resilience and thrive.

Become an active member of the PWBF community by volunteering. Let us know how you can help. Work directly with students in the shop, or on the water. Pitch in with shop projects, or help out by working with our office staff.
